چکیده

The problem of crack deflection in bimaterial systems is considered in this paper. The material combinations may be of piezoelectric-piezoelectric, or one is piezoelectric and the other is not. Based on the Stroh formulation for anisotropic material, Green’s functions for various bimaterial combinations are presented within the framework of two-dimensional electroelasticity, allowing the crack problem to be expressed in terms of coupled singular integral equations. A crack impinging on an interface joining two dissimilar materials may arrest or may advance be either penetrating the interface or deflecting into the interface. The competition between deflection and penetration is investigated using the maximum energy release rate criterion. Numerical results are presented to study the role of remote electroelastic loads on the path selection of crack extension.

Propagation of a mode-III interfacial conductive crack along a conductive interface between two piezoelectric materials

An analysis is presented for transient response of a mode-III interfacial crack propagating between two dissimilar piezoelectric half spaces. The dynamic fracture toughness of a piezoelectric interface is examined, which is a central issue related to the interface strength of multi-layered sensors and ferroelectric thin film devices. For the mode-III crack propagation in piezoelectric materials...

Screw dislocation interacting with interface and interfacial cracks in piezoelectric bimaterials

Interface and interfacial cracks interacting with screw dislocations in piezoelectric bimaterials subjected to antiplane mechanical and in-plane electrical loadings are studied within the framework of linear piezoelectricity theory. Straight dislocations with the Burgers vector normal to the isotropic basal plane near the interface or interfacial crack are considered. The dislocations are chara...

Interaction of dynamic mode-I cracks with inclined interfaces

In this paper, we report on an experimental study of the deflection/penetration behavior of dynamic mode-I cracks propagating at two different crack velocities (slower and faster) toward inclined weak interfaces of three dissimilar angles (a): 30 , 45 and 60 . A simple wedge-loading specimen configuration as proposed by Xu et al. [Xu LR, Huang YY, Rosakis AJ. Dynamic crack deflection and penetr...
